Location
The Riviera Maya extends along the Caribbean coastline south of Cancún, a stretch of turquoise water and white sand backed by jungle and cenotes. What began as the Cancún–Tulum corridor has evolved into a tourism district that runs from Puerto Morelos in the north to Felipe Carrillo Puerto 40 kilometres inland, encompassing the coastal municipalities of Solidaridad and Tulum. The property sits within this corridor, where the hum of the jungle meets the rhythmic wash of the Caribbean.
Playa del Carmen, the region's cultural and commercial heart, lies to the north. Here, Quinta Avenida pulses with open-air restaurants, artisan markets, and dive shops catering to those bound for the reefs of Cozumel. The coastline itself is punctuated by beaches: Kanai less than a kilometre south, Punta Esmeralda 11 kilometres north, each offering different textures of sand and sea.
The nearest international gateway is Cancún International Airport, 37 kilometres north via Highway 307, the federal route that stitches together the entire Riviera Maya. Cozumel International Airport lies 24 kilometres east across the water. Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport Tulum, 94 kilometres south, serves the lower reaches of the corridor.
On-property dining centres the experience, though the Riviera Maya's Michelin-starred tables are within reach. Cocina de Autor Riviera Maya, seven kilometres away at the Grand Velas resort, brings ocean views and immersive Mexican creativity under one star. Further north, Le Chique at the Azul Beach Resort (20 kilometres) delivers theatrical contemporary cuisine helmed by Chef Jonatán Gómez Luna, while HA' at Hotel Xcaret (20 kilometres) rewards the navigation required to find it with inventive Mexican fare. Book a table at any of these well ahead; these are destination restaurants in a region dense with resorts.
Beyond the table, the Caribbean dictates the rhythm. Dive sites cluster around Playa del Carmen, 14 kilometres north: cenote diving, reef exploration, and freediving all within the same coastal stretch. El Camaleón Golf Course sits six kilometres inland, where jungle frames fairways. The artisan market Hand Made Playa del Carmen, Callejón del arte, 14 kilometres north, gathers local craftwork in a pedestrian corridor off Quinta Avenida. Parque Nacional Arrecife de Puerto Morelos, 25 kilometres north, protects one of the most accessible sections of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef.
January through April deliver the most settled weather, with daytime highs in the mid-to-upper twenties and night-time lows that rarely dip below 22°C. The light is sharp, the humidity manageable, and the Caribbean gleams in shades of cobalt and jade. This is peak season, when the beaches fill and the reef visibility runs deep.
May marks the start of the wet season, though rainfall arrives in short, heavy bursts rather than lingering drizzle. June through October bring the warmest temperatures and the heaviest precipitation, with September recording the highest monthly totals. The jungle thickens, the air turns thick, and afternoon storms roll in with little warning.
November and December ease back toward drier conditions, though brief showers persist. The crowds thin slightly, and the light softens as the year turns. The sea stays warm year-round, rarely dropping below 26°C even in the coolest months.
