Book a tee time at Goat Hill Park Golf Course, a quirky par-three track less than two kilometres away with views over the harbour, or venture to Witch Creek Winery's tasting room, 4.8 kilometres inland, where San Pasqual Valley grapes find their expression in small-lot bottlings. Don't miss the Thursday sunset farmers market on Pier View Way, where strawberry growers from inland Valleys sell fruit that tastes nothing like supermarket versions.

Summer arrives late and lingers long, the marine layer burning off by midday to reveal temperatures in the mid-twenties through September. The light turns golden and slanted in the afternoons, and the beaches fill with families who know to arrive early for parking. October through April brings cooler air and the year's only meaningful rain, though even winter sees highs near eighteen degrees and enough blue-sky days to keep the surf lineups populated.

Spring blooms brief and brilliant along the coastal bluffs before June's notorious gloom settles in, that thick morning fog the locals call May Gray and June Gloom. It's the quietest season, ideal for those who prefer their coastline without crowds and don't mind waiting until afternoon for the sun to break through.
